Christmas Trees Grow 15 Years Before They Are Sold
Browsing Sparknotes one day I came across something very interesting. One of the sections talks about the true meaning of Jane Eyre's name. Jane is a name normally associated with being plain. This calls attention to Jane's status. The other, well-off women in the story have more extravagant names, examples being Blanche, Eliza, and Georgiana. As for the the last name it says that Eyre connects to "aire" and in french it means a birds nesting place. I found this especially interesting because it helps ties together the motif of birds in the book.

Cats Sleep 16 to 18 Hours Per Day
Looking back at the Catcher in the Rye there was a reoccurring idea that I don't remember talking about but have wondered about. I noticed in the book Holden's concern for the Ducks. He seems to be more troubled about the ducks dying rather than awaiting their return. Holden has experienced death more than once with his brother Allie and James Castle, so his mind can't help but have thoughts of death. I just think that this motif helps back up that death is a huge theme in both the book and Holden's life.

The plastic things on the end of shoelaces are called aglets
I believe that these authors and directors illustrate being a teenager somewhat accurately. Of course to make the story more interesting all elements of the movie/book are embellished. Most lives of teens are not like that, but with that said, the basic concept behind everything is very relatable to a teen's life. The television show that I think accurately depicts being a teenager is Saved by the Bell. It shows a group of teenage friends in their everyday lives. It shows the common conflicts that a teenager goes through on a regular basis. The most admirable thing about this show is that it is interesting without the dramatization of most teenage movies. I think Saved by the Bell is the closest that any movie/tv show has gotten to display the life of an average teenager.

American Car Horns Beep in the Tone of F
A movie that I think well illustrates childhood is the Sandlot. The plot of the movie is based on a perfect summer adventure. It shows the friendships, the care-free attitude, and the experimental mistakes that kids make. It also shows how the imagination of a child can sometime get away from them, making otherwise small situations into big deals.
All four stories that we have read well demonstrates what goes on in a child's mind. They all specifically show that children don't always completely understand what is going on around them. Especially in The Sutton Pie Safe and Every Little Hurricane, Cates and Victor observe their environment and try to put all of the pieces together. Although they come close to the truth, they don't truly apprehend what is truly going on. The main difference of the stories is where they all come from and their way of life. Cates lives in the country, Victor lives on a reservation, and Connie and the kids from the Bottle Caps story are from the city. I think that the stories do a good job of depicting childhood; although, they mainly just show the struggles of being a child and not the good times.

Butterflies Taste With Their Feet
I have a serious problem, or should I say had. This event didn't happen long ago but it taught me a lesson that I will never forget. I used to be the biggest procrastinator. I would put things off until the last minute and somehow I would always pull it off. One time this problem really backfired. I was assigned an assignment in the beginning of the quarter and was given the whole quarter to complete it. Day after day, week after week I used any excuse I could possibly find to get out of doing it. Finally the day before it was due I realized that I had accomplished nothing the whole quarter. Long story short I had to pull an all nighter to start and finish this assignment. Not only did I feel awful from the lack of sleep the next day, but the quality of the assignment was not to standard. I learned that once assigned you are going to have to do it sooner or later so you might as well just do it so you don't have to worry about it. I really grew up from this experience and have overcame my serious problem.
